OUR STORY
The vision for RockSalt is to bring together the accounting and technology backgrounds of husband & wife team, Pete & Jen Daplyn, working individually, or as a team on projects, depending on the clients’ needs. Although we haven’t quite got there yet, with Pete remaining in full-time employment!
JEN DAPLYN
Jen graduated from the University of Surrey in 2000, with a degree in Business and went on to qualify as Chartered Management Accountant in 2003, while on the NHS Graduate Finance Training Scheme. She gained experience working across the full range of functions within an NHS Finance department and held senior costing & management accounting posts before moving to the role of Assessment Manager for Monitor, Independent Regulator of Foundation Trusts.
In a slightly different role as a stay-at-home mum Jen became one of the founding Trustees and Treasurer for a local charity. This role grew with the charity and led to setting up, managing and running the Finance and IT functions for the charity over the last 10 years.
In October 2018, Jen joined the IAB, (having resigned from CIMA while at home with the children), and in February 2019, started RockSalt, to expand her work to new clients.
Through RockSalt, Jen provides a wide range of bookkeeping and accountancy services, particularly specialising in non-profit making organisations (which she loves working with!). Keen to add some new skills to her repertoire, Jen also has clients, for whom she has redesigned their websites and continues to maintain their website, email and online storage needs and Pete has been able to support with these projects as & when needed.
PETE DAPLYN
Pete studied Computing at Imperial College, London, graduating in 2001. He has since worked as a software engineer at a range of companies, from the largest financial firms to small FinTech startups. See his LinkedIn profile for more details.
Pete is currently employed full-time, but has capacity to take on side projects and provide technical support to Jen as required.
He is an enthusiastic runner and participant in adventure sports, having run numerous marathons, completed multiple expedition adventure races (including the 2023 World Champs), and is a regular competitive orienteer.
Orienteering is Pete's sporting passion, which led him to create O-Tools as side-project under the RockSalt brand in 2023, as a collection of tools and analytics for orienteers. O-Tools takes up most of his "side-project time", but he has also built Mappage and LifeTime which he plans to keep progressing as and when time allows.
